A love story
The story of these two Saints, described in the monument of ancient Russian literature "The Tale of Peter and Fevronia of Murom", tells how the prince, who was seriously ill with leprosy, was cured thanks to a wise peasant girl. He promised to marry her, and despite the displeasure of the nobility and even expulsion from the city, he remained faithful to his wife. In their old age, the couple became monks and, according to legend, died on the same day and hour. In 1547, the Russian Orthodox Church canonized them. Since then, Peter and Fevronia have been revered as the heavenly patrons of family, marriage and love.
Family, Love and Fidelity Day in Russia
In 2008, which was declared the Year of the Family, a new holiday appeared in Russia, dedicated to the commemoration day of Saints Peter and Fevronia, which is celebrated on July 8. It was called the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. The idea of its establishment was born in Murom, the city where the relics of saints are kept. In 2006, local residents collected about 20,000 signatures in support of the holiday, and two years later the initiative was approved at the state level. In June 2022, the President of Russia signed a decree on the official establishment of this date. The symbol of the holiday was the daisy, a flower that embodies purity, love and fidelity. On this day, celebrations are held throughout the country, and married couples who have lived together for more than 25 years are awarded medals "For Love and Fidelity" depicting the faces of Saints Peter and Fevronia.
The image of Peter and Fevronia in jewelry art
In the collection of Vladimir Mikhailov, the images of Saints and the symbol of the holiday, the Daisy, have received a precious embodiment in a variety of forms. The icons depicting the patron saints of marriage, made in the ancient technique of Novgorod small-scale sculpture, carry a prayer for family well-being. Elegant pendants in the form of daisies carefully preserve the image of Peter and Fevronia in the center of the flower. Delicate earrings, bracelets and rings decorated with floral ornaments and delicate petals become not just ornaments, but a quiet reminder of the main values: loyalty, patience and sacrificial love. Each such handmade product can become a family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation as a blessing and a symbol of an indestructible union.
