Saint Natalia lived in Nicomedia of Bithynia in the 3rd century and was a secret Christian. She married Adrian of Nicomedia very young, converted him to the Christian faith, but lived with him for only a year before his martyrdom. There were times of persecution of Christians under Emperor Maximian. According to one of the denunciations, twenty-three Christians were tried. Adrian, being the head of the judicial chamber, observed with what courage these people endured suffering for their faith and, inspired, ordered to write down his name, for which he was convicted and thrown into prison. His wife supported him until the last few minutes, comforting him and helping him find peace in his faith.

She asked him to offer her first prayer to God so that she would not be forced to marry a pagan after his death. Saint Natalia, fearing that her husband, seeing the sufferings of other martyrs, would not hesitate, asked the torturers to begin the execution with him. After her husband's death, they wanted to marry her to the commander of thousands, and in a dream her husband came to the saint and said that she would soon be laid to rest by the Lord. Natalia is revered by the church as a bloodless martyr. In the Orthodox world, she is revered as an example of a faithful, loving wife and selfless Christian. The prayers addressed to her strengthen both the Orthodox faith and marital fidelity, and settle quarrels between spouses.
