The Holy Martyr Nikita is revered as one of the zealous preachers and soldiers of Christ.

While still unbaptized, he saw in a dream Christ holding a cross, and upon awakening he found on his chest the image of the Mother of God with the Eternal Infant. Moved by the sign of God, he renounced pagan heresy and, having received Holy Baptism (from Bishop Theophilus, a participant in the First Ecumenical Council), together with Bishop Wulfila participated in the spread of Christianity among his fellow tribesmen. During the intertribal conflict, St. Nikita fought against Athanaric, and after the pagan ruler returned to power, Nikita denounced him of godlessness and cruelty, for which he was captured and subjected to cruel tortures. Subjected to severe torture, St. Nikita remained unharmed, as did the image of the Virgin and Child on his body. Upon seeing this miracle, all the townspeople, along with the queen, turned against the tsar and were baptized.

The Great Martyr Nikita died in 372. According to one version, his Christian friend Marian found the body of the martyr at night, undamaged by fire and illuminated by a wonderful light, transferred it and buried it in Cilicia. Subsequently, the body was transferred to Constantinople, and a fragment of the holy relics of the great martyr was transferred to the monastery of Vysokye Decany, in Serbia. According to another story, after the death of the saint, the angels of the Lord descended and did not let the body lie on the ground, but took it to the holy city. On the pendant from the "Holy Warrior" collection, the holy Martyr Nikita is depicted standing tall in military armor, raising the life-giving cross in his right hand, and placing his left hand on the hilt of a naked sword. St. Nikita is revered by the Church as the patron saint of soldiers fighting for faith and Fatherland.
