The Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary Magdalene, one of the women's bearers, was awarded the first of the people to see the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. She was born in the town of Magdala in Galilee. From her youth she suffered a serious illness - insanity. Through illness, Mary Magdalene found nothing unshakable devotion to the Lord. When Jesus cast out seven demons from her, she, leaving all, followed Him. She did not leave the Lord after taking Him by the Jews, when the faith in Him nearest disciples began to fluctuate. Mary Magdalene stood at the Cross along with the Most Holy Theotokos and the Apostle John. She accompanied the Most Pure Body of the Son of God by transferring Him to the tomb and was at His burial. Serving the Lord during His earthly life, she desired to serve Him even after death, giving the Body His final honors.
The Risen Christ sent Saint Mary with a message from Him to the disciples, and the blessed wife, rejoicing, announced to the apostles what was seen. As the first evangelist of Christ's Resurrection, St. Mary Magdalene is recognized by the Equal-to-the-Apostles Church.
