Iconography of the Guardian Angel
On the icons, the Guardian Angel is depicted as a beautiful young man, symbolizing spiritual purity and purity. His white robes, wings and halo remind of his heavenly origin. He often holds a cross in his hands, a symbol of victory over death, or a drawn sword, a weapon against the forces of evil. Sometimes he is painted in military armor, emphasizing his role as a defender.
Seraphim are the highest angelic rank
In the heavenly hierarchy described by Saint Dionysius the Areopagite, the highest angelic rank is occupied by Seraphim, six–winged fiery beings closest to the Throne of God. The very name "Seraphim" in Hebrew means "flaming", "fiery". The prophet Isaiah saw them at the throne of the Lord: "Seraphim stood around Him; each of them had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And they called out to one another and said: Holy, holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts! the whole earth is full of His glory!" (Isaiah 6:2-3). Seraphim are traditionally depicted on icons with six wings, often in red or fiery color, symbolizing fiery love for God.
Images of angels in Vladimir Mikhailov's collection
In the work of the jeweler Vladimir Mikhailov, the ancient images of angelic forces acquire a precious embodiment. Following the canons of Novgorod fine sculpture, the master creates elegant body icons depicting a Guardian Angel, miniature pendants where a six-winged Seraphim appears in strict beauty of lines, and complex compositions with Archangel Michael, the leader of the Heavenly Host. Each piece made by hand from precious metals becomes not just a piece of jewelry, but also a reminder of invisible patronage, a personal shrine that can be worn near the heart.
