The Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky was born on May 30, 1220 in the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky, where his father reigned. The rite of initiation of the boy Alexander into the soldiers was performed in the Transfiguration Cathedral of Pereslavl by St. Simon, Bishop of Suzdal, one of the compilers of the Kiev Caves Paterik. Russian Russian Orthodox Bishop Alexander received his first blessing from the blessed elder-hierarch for military service in the Name of God, for the protection of the Russian Church and the Russian land.
Prince Alexander, called Nevsky for winning the battle on the Neva River and canonized for it, defended his Homeland from enemy hordes for many years, participated in the conclusion of alliances with influential neighbors. The holy Prince used every opportunity to elevate his native land and ease its lot on the cross. All his exploits were accomplished thanks to the prayers he tirelessly offered to the Lord God. Thanks to Alexander, the future of Russia was saved, which means that his duty to God was fulfilled. In the monastery of Gorodets, the ascetic prince surrendered his spirit to the Lord on November 14, 1263, completing a difficult life by accepting the holy monastic schema with the name Alexy.
Alexander's selfless sacrifice for the good of the Fatherland and its protection from enemies, as well as dedication to faith in Christ, served as an excellent example of a wise and brave ruler. Today, Saint Alexander Nevsky protects our country and all Russian people with his heavenly protection. As long as the Orthodox pray to him for the protection of the Motherland and honor him with their commemoration, a bloody war will not happen.
