The beautiful Daria was a priestess of Pallas Athena. She was married to a young man named Chrysanthos, who openly preached the gospel. Saint Chrysanthos converted his wife to Christ, and the young couple, by mutual consent, decided to lead a virgin life.

After his father's death, they began to live in separate houses. Saint Chrysanthos gathered around him several young men who had been converted to Christ, and pious women gathered around Saint Daria. The townspeople complained to the authorities about the preaching of celibacy by their spouses, they were brought to court and tortured, demanding to sacrifice to pagan gods.

The torturers gave Saint Darius to fornication. But there she was guarded by a lion sent by God. All those who tried to desecrate the saint were knocked to the ground by the lion, but left alive. The martyr preached Christ to them and turned them to the path of salvation. Then a fire was lit at the door of the house where Daria and the lion were staying: Daria blessed the lion to go into the desert without touching anyone, but she remained unharmed in the fire.

Saint Chrysanthos was imprisoned and sentenced to public torture. He was thrown into a stinking pit, where all the sewage of the city flowed down, but Heavenly Light shone upon him, and instead of the stench, the pit was filled with fragrance.

After the tortures, the martyrs were executed — they were lowered alive into the moat and buried. Christians began to gather and worship in a cave located near the place of execution. Upon learning of this, the pagan authorities ordered to fill up the entrance to the cave filled with worshippers.

In the image, the saint's right hand raises the cross, her left hand is open in a blessing gesture. On the right, in the heavenly glow, the Savior's blessing hand is stretched out to her face. Saint Darius helps to gain the gift of humility and repentance, protecting from demonic temptations and false teachings.
