Saint Alexandra of Rome, Empress of Nicomedia, was the wife of Emperor Diocletian, an ardent pagan and persecutor of Christians, and was also a pagan from birth.

Saint George the Victorious suffered among the many Christians during the reign of Diocletian. Being a commander of thousands, he was captured for openly professing Christ. The Lord did not leave the martyr in his sufferings. When the Angel of the Lord himself delivered the saint of God from mortal torture and healed his terrible wounds, many, including Tsarina Alexandra, saw him unharmed and believed in Christ.

When the holy warrior George destroyed the temple with idols in the name of the Lord Christ and was tortured again, Tsarina Alexandra could no longer hide her faith in the Savior.

She went to the place where Saint George was being tortured, and, falling at the feet of the great martyr, confessed Christ as the true God in front of all the people, declaring herself a Christian. Upon learning of this, Diocletian, distraught with anger, sentenced the queen to death and ordered her to be executed along with the holy warrior.

On the way to the place of execution, the queen became exhausted and asked the soldiers to let her rest for a while. During a short rest, she betrayed her spirit.

According to another legend, the death of the holy martyr turned out to be imaginary, and the Lord miraculously saved her from death so that she could serve him together with her daughter, the holy martyr Valeria.

They spent many years in exile, and already under the emperor Licinius they were beheaded for confessing Christ, and their bodies were thrown into the sea.
