The Holy Great Martyr Marina lived at the end of the 3rd century, during the time of the persecution of Christians by Emperor Diocletian. Her father was a pagan priest in Antioch, but the nurse raised the girl in the Christian faith. When Marina was fifteen years old, the ruler of Olymvry, fascinated by her beauty, offered the girl to renounce Christ and become his wife, but she refused. Then they nailed Saint Marina to a board and began to torment her body with tridents. At night, the saint was vouchsafed a heavenly visitation and was healed of her wounds. The next day, when she was tied to a tree and scorched with fire, the saint emerged unharmed. Then they decided to drown the martyr in a barrel.

Saint Marina prayed: "Lord, You have vouchsafed me to pass through fire for Your name, and vouchsafed me to pass through the water of holy baptism." Suddenly, a light shone, and a snow-white pigeon with a golden crown in its beak descended from the sky. Saint Marina came out of the baptismal font completely healthy. The people, amazed by the miracle, believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. The ruler Olymbry, enraged, ordered the beheading of the saint. Fifteen thousand Christians died at the same time. Subsequently, part of the relics of the Holy Great Martyr Marina was transferred to Mount Athos, to the Vatopedi Monastery. Many miracles happen through the prayers of Saint Marina. Saint Marina can help convert an unbeliever, heal a sick person, and set a doubter on the path.
