St. Alexius, a man of God, was born in Rome of noble and pious parents. Senator Euthymian and his wife Aglaida had no children for a long time, but the pious Aglaida did not give up hope. And God heard her, and sent them a son. The father named the baby Alexy (translated from Greek as "defender"). Saint Alexy grew up a healthy child, studied well and diligently. When he reached adulthood, his parents decided to marry him to a girl of royal blood. But when Saint Alexy was left alone with his young wife after the wedding, he gave her his gold ring and belt buckle with instructions to keep them safe and left the marital chamber to leave his father's house that night in the name of serving the Lord. The Monk Alexy arrived by ship in Laodicea in Syria, where in the city of Edessa, having distributed the remnants of his possessions and dressed in rags, he spent seventeen years begging in the vestibule of the church of the Theotokos.

Meanwhile, the parents and wife of Saint Alexy, saddened by his disappearance, sent their servants to search for him. They also visited Tom's temple, but after giving Alexy alms, they did not recognize him.

One day, the Most Pure Herself, appearing in a dream to the church watchman, revealed that the beggar Alexy was a man of God. When the inhabitants of Edessa began to honor him, the Monk Alexy secretly fled. By God's providence, his ship, caught in a storm, was carried to its native shores, and the Monk Alexy, seeing the Will of the Lord in this, asked for shelter in his father's house, where he lived for seventeen years under the guise of a blessed pilgrim, humbly enduring the mockery of envious servants. When the hour of his death drew near, the monk wrote down his whole life.

On Sunday after the Divine Liturgy, a miracle took place in St. Peter's Cathedral. A voice from above, coming from the holy See, commanded that the man of God be sought in the house of Euthymianus, so that he might pray for Rome. Euthymian, unaware of anything, heard from a servant about the righteousness of Saint Alexy, but, rushing to the monk, he no longer found him alive. The face of the blissfully deceased saint shone with an otherworldly light. In his hand, the Monk Alexy held a tightly clenched scroll. At the prayer of the Emperor and the Pope, Saint Alexy opened his hand, and the scroll with his biography was read by the reader of the temple. The father, mother and wife of Saint Alexy fell down to the body of the saint, crying, and worshiped his venerable remains. The bed with the body of Saint Alexy was placed in the middle of the central square. People began to flock to him in order to be cleansed and cured of their ailments. The dumb began to speak, the blind regained their sight, the possessed and the mentally ill recovered.

The venerable remains of Saint Alexy, a man of God, were buried in the church of Saint Boniface on March 17, 411. On this day, the memory of St. Alexius, a man of God, is celebrated. In 1216, the relics of the saint were found.

Reverend Alexy is a man of God, full of humility and fidelity to the Lord all his earthly life, who passed his way in purity and holiness, in prayer and performing godly deeds, and has long been revered as one of the most beloved saints in Russia.
