St. Sergius and Herman of Valaam

St. Sergius and Herman of Valaam are the holy founders of the Transfiguration Monastery of Valaam. Through their teachings and lives, the monks greatly contributed to the spread and establishment of the Orthodox faith in Karelia, and the brotherhood they gathered became the light of Orthodoxy in those places. Saints are revered as spiritual guides and prayer books for all the lost. The words of prayer to the saints run along the end of the icon, the reverse side is richly decorated with ornaments.
