"Unexpected Joy" is a miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, before which a praying man kneels, who has received the unexpected joy of forgiveness and remission of sins. The icon contains the first words of the narrative of this miraculous event, described by St. Demetrius of Rostov in the 17th century. The arched image is presented on a Baroque pedestal, in the form of a festive towel, in front of which a burning lamp is symbolically depicted.
