The icon depicts the image of St. Roman the Sweet Singer, the author of numerous church hymns who lived in Syria in the middle of the fifth century. The holy monk became famous as the creator of the liturgical genre "kontakion", which is still widely used by the church. On the icon, the saint holds a scroll with the words of the famous kontakion "The Virgin gives birth to the Most Holy today." On the reverse side of the icon is a prayer to Saint Roman.
