The icon tells about an event from the life of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia. Nicholas the Wonderworker will receive news about three men who were wrongfully condemned by the mayor Evstafy, having been bribed by the envious convicts. Saint Nicholas hurried to the place of execution and miraculously managed to hold the sword, which was already raised over the heads of the condemned. He menacingly denounced the mayor and no one dared to contradict him, and Eustathius repented of his crime.
