Saint Elijah the Prophet

The icon depicts the story of the Fiery Ascent of Elijah the Prophet. According to legend, for his ardent zeal for the glory of God, the greatest Old Testament prophet Elijah was taken to heaven alive in a fiery chariot drawn by four winged horses. The chariot, surrounded by a glow in the form of a circle, has the subjects of the Saint's life: on the right, the prophet Elisha, a disciple of the Saint, stretches his arms skyward, on the left, the appearance of an Angel in the desert. Above the prophet is the face of the blessing Lord. On the reverse side of the icon is a prayer to the Saint.
