Descent from the Cross

On the icon, the plot of the Passion of Christ is the descent from the Cross. All four evangelists talk about this story.: "After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate to remove the body of Jesus, and Pilate allowed it. He went and took down the body of Jesus." With trembling, the righteous Nicodemus and Joseph touch the incorruptible Body of Christ, and the Most Holy Theotokos reverently supports the head of Christ. On the back of the icon is a prayer to Christ.
